The Office of Residence Life, in collaboration with the Housing and Food Insecurity Taskforce (HFI), has established Emergency Housing suites in the Wabash Building. As housing and food insecurity increasingly impact student well-being, this initiative provides critical short-term support to help students remain safe and stable during times of crisis. Students seeking Emergency Housing must be enrolled for the semester in which they are requesting assistance and should contact the Office of Residence Life. Emergency Housing stays are limited to a maximum of five business days.
Students experiencing housing or home insecurity that are interested in staying in Emergency Housing, should contact the Office of Residence Life, located on the 14th floor of the Wabash Building (During business hours, M-F 9-5pm), by phone at 312-341-2005, or by email at reslife@roosevelt.edu.
Housing insecurity includes a range of challenges that prevent students from having safe, stable, and affordable housing. This may include difficulty paying rent or utilities, frequent or forced moves. In more severe cases, students may experience homelessness, meaning they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate place to live—such as sleeping in cars, motels, shelters, or temporarily staying with others (couch surfing) without a permanent housing plan.
The Illinois Public Act 102-0083 requires all institutions of higher education to designate a staff member as the Housing and Opportunities that are Useful for Students' Excellence (HOUSE) liaison to assist homeless students enrolled in at the institution.
At »ÆÉ«²Ö¿â, Mayra Salgado serves as the House Liaison.
