In accordance with , the University policy for respiratory illness (eg, influenza, COVID-19, RSV, etc.) is as follows:
- If you feel sick stay home—employees should inform their supervisor, and students should inform their faculty, when they cannot be present on campus due to illness.
- All employees and students can return to their normal activities and return to campus when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- When you return to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for , , , and/or when you will be around other people indoors.
- Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how long you were sick or how sick you were.
- If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then, take added precaution for the next 5 days.
Immunization:
The CDC recommends everyone stay up to date on immunizations for respiratory infections, and the University strongly encourages faculty, staff and students to consult with their health care provider and to stay up to date with all recommended vaccines, including the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines. Note that some programs require students to have additional vaccines, like COVID-19 and/or influenza vaccine, based on requirements of experiential sites. Check with your specific program for requirements.
